Small faith, great mercy!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 9:27-34

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“According to your faith let it be done to you.” (Matthew 9:29)
This is a scary verse; if the quality of my faith determines the results, I’m in trouble.
Some people use this verse to explain why some people don’t get healed.
But notice that Jesus does not say this to everyone.
Nothing is said about the mute man speaking ‘according to his faith’.
Jesus speaks uniquely to these two men, and they respond with faith.
Strong faith is good, but mustard seed faith is also welcome (Matthew 17:20).
For myself, I feel more like the doubting believer in Mark 9:21-25.
“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)
Jesus meets us where we are, ‘according to our faith’, and is merciful.
In my experience, healing does not always happen, but mercy does!
Which probably means my faith is not as strong as it could/should be.
But my hope is NOT in the quality of my faith, but in the mercy of my Saviour.
My mustard seed faith is not yet what it could be, but it is enough.
And I’m trusting Him to make it grow!
PRAYER
Lord, I believe… help me in my unbelief. Your mercy is greater than my faith, and that gives me hope!

  1. Blind men following Jesus? How is that possible? They must have had friends that led them and had heard all that Jesus could do. Hopeful they cried to Him for mercy. They cried to the Lord to remove their suffering and He did. They were healed and went their way rejoicing.
Open my eyes Lord that I may see You this day and that I go on my way rejoicing and that others may see You in me. Help me daily in my journey of joy for the joy of the Lord God is my strength.

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

To see You high and lifted up
Shinin’ in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy

  2. Inside, Jesus asks the blind if they believed he could heal them – away from the crowd. They said yes. The mute demon possessed man was brought to Jesus – they persons who brought him to Jesus also believed – that’s why they brought him to Jesus. Jesus opens the eyes of the blind and frees the demon possessed. It was hard to keep the evidence of what Jesus had done, secret. Lives dramatically changed. Yet Jesus opened my eyes and freed me too – do I keep that to myself? May my life and actions also bring ‘the living hope’ to those around me! Help me have bolder faith I pray.

  3. FAITH – for all I trust Him. Jesus is my Great Healer, my Jehovah Rapha. He said to the desperate woman bleeding for 12 years, “your faith has healed you.” (Matt 9:22)
To the two blind men, Jesus asked,”Do you believe that I am able to do this?” and then after they replied Yes, Lord, He touched their eyes and Jesus said “According to your faith it will be done to you”
20 years ago I was rushed to the Emergency with brain hemorrhage. When the doctor told me I have aneurysm, all I said was “Jesus if it’s time for me to die take me I’m yours”
I was healed and doctors could not explain it but I know because Jesus still has a mission for me to do here on earth.
Praise the Lord that Jesus comes to us and meets us where we are at in our FAITH. He always heals and not always in ways e.g. physically as we are expecting sometimes but I believe He always does either spiritual, emotional or psychological.
Praise to you Jehovah Rapha, your will be done!

  4. Belief vs. unbelief; faith vs. lack of faith; those who were healed vs. the Pharisees who observed. Why were the Pharisees so adamant about denying the power of Jesus? Lord Jesus, help me to believe. Help me to deepen my faith in You.

  5. “According to your faith let it be done to you.” (Matthew 9:29)

Scary indeed. When I have faith but don’t see results and am getting frustrated, perhaps I need to look for patience instead of whatever I’m asking for. On the other hand, perhaps I need to challenge myself on whether my faith is in the Lord or was it just in my own ability?

“…he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”” (Matthew 9:28
