He did not know

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“About that day or hour no one knows, not even… the Son, but only the Father.” (Mark 13:32)
I was raised to believe Jesus was God, and that he had God power and knowledge.
He performed miracles, raised the dead, read people’s minds because he was God.
This verse shows what the bible actually says, how Jesus emptied himself of ‘Godness’.
“He made himself nothing (literally ’emptied himself’), being made in human likeness.” (Philippians 2:7)
I believe that Jesus is the eternal Word of God made flesh (John 1:1).
But while on earth he was fully human, limited and vulnerable just like us.
Like the first Adam, he was fully human and with sin – how we were supposed to be.
It was God’s Spirit in him that enabled him to do and say what he did.
In other words, if we now have God’s Spirit, we can say and do what he did.
This is why Jesus said we could do even greater things than him (John 14:12).
The difference is that I am still held back by sin, and so this limits me.
Jesus did not have an easy time on earth because he was God, he struggled too.
Like us he learned, he struggled, he cried, he hungered, he felt pain… with God’s help.
We will not have an easy time either, but with the Spirit’s help we can overcome too!
Lord Jesus, I can relate to your humanity, but not your sinlessness. In my weakness be my strength. Help me to do more of the “greater things” that can only be done with your Spirit at work in me.

  1. I might want to know everything but I know I can’t. I can’t fathom the universe, the inner workings of atoms and molecules – and I can’t fathom the space-time-energy-mass relationships – but I can do my part: “puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task”. Jesus had a specific mission that He accomplished – only He could do that. While here on earth he entrusted the rest and the ‘end’ to His Father. So I too must trust – follow my saviour’s leading – be spirit led.

  2. Our world belongs to God. He will return and in the meantime, I need to use my given gifts in service to Him. And at the same time, wait for His return. He will give strength to those who work and wait expectantly while doing His will. Watch. Wait. Pray. And fix your/my eyes on Jesus. His kingdom will come for it is God’s world. That is my hope and song in times like these.

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength
They shall mount up with wings of eagles
They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint.
Teach me Lord, teach me Lord to wait.
