Returning his gifts to him!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Chronicles 28-29

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“We have given you only what comes from your hand.” (1 Chronicles 29:14)
What do I have that I have not received?
My mind, my mouth, my hands, my home, my car, my income, my education, my time?
Every about me is a gift from the Lord, a trust to be used well.
My life is hour gift to me; what I do with it is my gift to him!
All people, from the least to the greatest, have been gifted for a purpose.
David had his purpose, Solomon had his, the leaders also had theirs.
Every day we have an opportunity to build something for the Lord, for good.
“All this I have given willingly and with honest intent.” (1 Chronicles 29:17)
Can I echo these words for my own life?
As a Jesus follower, you can see yourself as extremely graced and gifted.
No matter how rich or poor, strong or weak, known or unknown, we have a calling.
He does not judge us for what we do NOT have, but what we do with what we DO have.
Today is the Lord’s gift to us, to build something beautiful for him.
“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.” (Romans 12:1)
PRAYER
Lord, may your blessings to me be a blessing to you and to others!

  1. This is a love fest of giving for the Lord. Not giving out of obligation but in response to David’s giving and to his appeal: “Who is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today?” David opens the treasury his and that of the people – and dedicates tonnes and tonnes of gold, silver, bronze, precious stones – I did the conversion once and tried to see how many mules/donkeys/camels etc. it would have taken – it must of been quite the sight. And the people also responded with their tonnes of gifts. So David in his prayer revels at the ‘spirit of giving’ in the people and he prays: “how willingly your people who are here have given to you…..keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.” Early in his prayer, David says of himself and his people: “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. David knows it is God’s. He’s only given back to God from what God has given to Him. I too am a steward – here for awhile and entrusted with gifts that are all Gods. I am a mere steward- and that is how I need to see it!

  2. The people gave willingly, for with a whole heart they offered freely to the Lord. They offered freely and joyously to the Lord. The lord has also blessed me and I too need to give willingly and joyously in my wholehearted service. All I have comes from God and I have just given what already is His. You continue too provide. I thank You Lord and praise our name for it is in You I am strong.

    Wholehearted thanksgiving to thee I will bring,
    in praise of thy marvelous deeds I will sing;
    in thee I will joy and exultingly cry,
    thy name I will praise, O Jehovah Most High.

    Refrain:
    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
    let the earth hear his voice!
    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
    let the people rejoice!
    O come to Jehovah, declare ye his fame,
    and give him all honor, for just is his name.
